I am so grateful for my life

In my post on how to start down the road of financial freedom, I mentioned the first three steps to becoming wealthy. But one of the things that I wanted to revisit is the idea of gratitude. When most people think of gratitude, they probably think of Thanksgiving. Think about it, if we made a holiday to remind us to give thanks for what we have, there must be good reason. And there is! Being thankful for what we have is one of the most powerful practices that you can develop on your road to prosperity.
In the next few days I will go over some of the different ways to make gratitude a part of your day, no matter how busy you are. But first let’s explore why gratitude is so important and what it can do for you. There are three main aspects that make gratitude such a powerful transformation tool: it makes you focus on the positive and cut back on complaints, it opens the floodgates and magnetizes the things you want in life, and it is the easiest way to build loving relationships.

Gratitude Makes you Focus on the Positive
First off, gratitude is great because it makes people focus on the positive. How often have you heard people complain about their problems, in whatever area of their life, and thought to yourself: they should be glad they aren’t in other people’s shoes. And it’s true! Most people are stuck in a complaining mode, simply because everyone seems to do it and it is the easiest way to live your life. But think about all of the people who are worst off than you, the homeless, the starving, the sick. You are truly blessed, no matter what your circumstances!

By being focused on what is going well for you, you keep those positive vibes going in your life. Personally, I love spending time with people are always happy and on a positive buzz. I’m not talking about people who seem to ignore all the bad things in their life and say, “everything is fine! I can live by breathing nothing but air, I don’t need money or a house or food to live!” I am talking about people who have an emotional range, just like you and me, but who happen to choose to express themselves positively and be happy and thankful for the things in their life.

Gratitude Opens the Floodgates
One of the most important aspects of being grateful is that it literally opens the floodgates to allow more good things to happen in your life. By focusing in on the things you like and are happy about and grateful for, you are sending out a signal that you want more of it. You become a magnet for more great things to be grateful for. Why do you think it is that when things are going great, more great things just keep happening? That sort of good flow of events only seems to stop when you forget to be grateful or when you focus on something that you didn’t expect or want in your life. But by staying focused on the good things, the ones you are pleased with, you can continue to change the situations in your life that you want to transform into better situations.

Gratitude is one of the most powerful tools you have to transforming your life. You can be in the worst situation you could ever have imagined, and still be grateful for tons of things! Be grateful for your life, your family, your friends, your health, your breathing, your imagination, your courage, the nature around you, the great experiences you’ve had, and the great opportunities that lay ahead.

Gratitude Is Easy and Makes Others Feel Good Too
Being grateful is so simple that anyone can do it. It doesn’t cost anything, it takes less than five minutes every day and it works. What more could you ask for? Another thing that being grateful can help with is relationships. Being grateful is very rewarding for other people in your life as well. Have you ever noticed that when you are genuinely grateful for a favor that someone performed for you, that person is more likely to help you again? For example, if your boyfriend or husband takes out the trash when you didn’t ask, you might express your gratitude and praise him. The next time the garbage is taken out, you will notice even less resistance!

Of course this works in a lot of different areas too. If you run a business and express lots of gratitude for potential customers or partners visiting, they are going to feel more valued and are more likely to return often. Being grateful harmonizes all of the feelings that we put out to people around us. Gratitude is essentially one of the ways of expressing love for someone, so it’s no wonder people respond well to it. Everyone wants to be loved, and as such everyone wants to be thanked for their contributions.
